.vault help

Signing in

Sign in to the console with GitHub or Google, add a second sign-in, and sign out everywhere.

The console lives at console.dotvault.net. Open it and you’ll land on the sign-in page, with a button for each way in: Sign in with GitHub and Sign in with Google.

Before you can sign in

You need an invite. .vault has no sign-up form, so an account it doesn’t recognise is turned away with a page that says to ask the vault’s owner for an invite. If that’s what you see, check you picked the account you used when you accepted your invite, or see Accepting an invite.

Signing in

  1. Go to console.dotvault.net.
  2. Choose Sign in with GitHub or Sign in with Google.
  3. Approve the request on the provider’s page. .vault only asks for enough to know which account you are.

You come back to the console signed in, and you stay signed in on that browser for seven days.

Adding a second way in

It’s worth linking both GitHub and Google, so losing access to one doesn’t lock you out.

  1. Sign in the way you normally do.
  2. Open your account page at console.dotvault.net/auth. It lists the sign-ins you already have.
  3. Choose Link GitHub or Link Google, whichever you haven’t added yet, and approve it.

An account can only belong to one person. If the GitHub or Google account you pick already signs someone else in, the link is refused.

Signing out

On your account page at console.dotvault.net/auth, choose Sign out on every device. That ends your sessions everywhere you are signed in, so you will need to sign in again on each browser.

If an owner removes you from a vault, your sessions end the next time you load a page. You don’t need to sign out anywhere.
